What We Do

Who We Help

Over 2.7 million children nationwide currently have at least one parent incarcerated, while it is estimated that over 10 million people have experienced parental incarceration at some point in their lives. The resultant trauma, disruption, shame and stigma associated with parental incarceration combines to create adverse childhood experiences.

We seek to offer these young people a safe place to go after school for academic support, mentoring and inspiration. We have served over 11,000 students living in under-invested communities and exposed to multiple risk factors including parental incarceration.

Every year, the U.S. Dream Academy partners with local schools to deliver robust after-school programs and mentoring to students living in communities impacted by mass incarceration. DreamKids grades 2 through 12 spend 10 to 15 hours each week in a stimulating learning environment that offers them ample opportunities for growth.

Creating a safe and caring atmosphere for DreamKids and DreamTeens sets the stage for building strong, trusting relationships with the U.S. Dream Academy staff and volunteer mentors.

Against the backdrop of supportive relationships we challenge our DreamKids to develop a growth mindset as we provide support, share power and expand opportunities.
